COMRADE JEFFERY ORJI RECEIVES NATIONAL IMPACT HUMAN RIGHT ADVOCATE AWARD 2017 by Cletus

National Impact Magazine crew on 23rd December 2017, gathered with few other media outfits at Benestar Royal Suites at Surulere Lagos to honour and encourage a man who have been championing the cause of human right violation and regional negligence in Nigeria all the way from New-Zealand where he resides.
Raising his voice hard on the prevalent of Osu caste system in Igboland Nigeria, he asked “Are humans not made alike? Is there any justification behind this prejudice? Why is it so powerful that the elites are silent? If it is a culture, is cultural change impossible? Why does it exist despite the laws made against it? The constitution of Nigeria frowns at any discrimination of a person on grounds of the persons, community, ethnicity, place of birth, sex, religion, political opinion or disability. Again, it is about seventy years now that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and banned slavery in 1948.
He is of the opinion that Pan Igbo abolition will be the only real solution to this quagmire. Other advocates of this saga are the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical province- His Grace, Dr Anthony Obinna, the Anglican Bishop of Okigwe South Diocese- Rt Rev David Onuoha, Bishop Raphael Okafor, Bishop Anthony Nkwoke, and Bishop Samuel Chukwuka etc.
In his letter to President Buhari published in August 2016 Titled “Open letter to Mr President,” he expressed his unhappiness over the trend of things in Nigeria. He observed that the entire world is alarmed at the spate of killings and wanton destruction of lives and properties that has become the order of the day in Nigeria. “Reports of killings no longer attracts due attention from both the security agencies and the federal government as if they are the real perpetrators. Cases of Fulani terrorists/ herdsmen ravaging farming communities are all over the country. Kidnapping, armed robbery, hired assassins and a general feeling of insecurity has become common among citizens under his watchful eyes.” Continuing he said, most Nigerians, Igbos in particular are helpless and aggrieved by the partial implementations of his policies which neglect the region in totality. Of particular concerns are the confirmed reports of the extra-judicial killing of IPOD members and Massob.” He challenged the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others who were detained without trial. He called on the International Organizations especially Amnesty International to intervene.
In his other open letter to Nigeria president titled “Open letter to President Buhari” he reminded the president that IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and His Royal Majesty Eze Israel Kanu and Ugoeze Nnenna Kanu are still missing after the army invasion at their home. The invasion by the python dance troop which took over 20 innocent lives of Biafra supporters. He frowned at the hard-line, tactless, and divisive decision which has fuel more agitation from every corner in Nigeria. He equally challenged his intension to censor social media users and crusaders. Finally, he appealed to him to treat Nigerians fairly so that posterity will remember him well.
Reacting to the award to his Nephew, Mr Ernest Nwogu one time media guru from Guardian newspaper said “It is good that the media is recognizing those who are making frantic effort to create an impact especially on the recklessness of human right abusers in this country. For instance, the social cultural case of Osu caste system in Igboland. In most communities, people don’t want to talk about it but it is ravaging their peace and unity. My Nephew has equally suffered one of such abuses because their family is classified as an Osu family and he is being requested to come and assume priesthood of the deity as the only surviving son of his dead parents. Even personally, I have suffered so much about it because they normally send their message through me, hence they believe that I advice him otherwise. What we are talking about involves life of rituals and legion of sacrifices which is against Christianity. In so many communities, there has been lots of civil unrest and flagrant disobedient to constitute authorities because the youths consider it a crime against humanity. I wish to challenge the government at all level to wake up to their responsibility of protection of lives. They should not keep blind eye to such ungodly practice. With these efforts I believe it will ameliorate and possibly end it all.
