In a press release duelly signed by the president general Comrade(prince) Adeyanju Adewale and secretary general Comrade Felix Akingboye the leadership of of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria has suspended the strike action following the high profile meeting with the management of NPA which was attended by IOCs, NNPC, NAPIM and NASO on the 28th of February, 2022 where it was unanimously agreed that two weeks effective from 28 February that 2922 that IOCs should complete all the processes in compliance of the law and commence implementation of engaging stevedoring and dockworkers on their oil platforms and report back to the authorities and union for review.
It could still be recalled that with view view to the 14 days notice given to the federal government of Nigeria on the non-compliance of the extant regulations ( Marine notice 106 of 2014,) by the IOCs the management of Nigeria ports Authority and Nigeria shippers council held separate meeting with the union on Friday 25th of February 2022 where both management appealed to the union be given time to prevail on the IOCs to comply with extant stevedoring laws which is a time lag of 30 days effective from 26?5th of February.
