SOMOLU LGA CHAIRMAN FOSTERS DIGITAL LITERACY AS HE EMPOWERS OVER 222 YOUTHS IN TECH SKILL

Digital literacy as a matter of fact, fosters critical thinking skills, helping individuals analyze and evaluate information critically, solve problems creatively, and make informed decisions. Apllauds have continued to sound for the peoples’ Somolu Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman, Abdulhamed Salawu, who has recently empowered over 222 youths in tech and digital skills.

 

 

The 3-day training program, which covered UI/UX Design, Web Development/Coding, and Digital Marketing, is part of the LGA’s initiative to create digital literacy programs for youth and adults, establish community networks and digital hubs, and support local startups and entrepreneurs in the tech sector.

According to Chairman Salawu, “As we gather here, I am reminded of the immense potential that ICT holds for transforming our community.
It is our duty as leaders to harness this potential, ensuring that Somolu and its vibrant youth remain at the forefront of innovation and progress.

Inspired by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES PLUS AGENDA, our administration has been committed to creating a customized policy to cater to the human capital development of our youths. To achieve this, we established Somolu Tech Intervention (SoTech).”

 

He also announced a groundbreaking initiative, elevating 40 outstanding youths who have excelled in the ICT skill acquisition programs to advanced, free scholarship opportunities. The SA to the local government chairman on ICT, Kola Mohammed, noted that the initiative is an ongoing program to educate the youths of Somolu in information technology.

“We have been able to train 222 youths, we picked 40 Best students out of all as directed by the honorable chairman to give laptops and other equipment to help them in their line of endeavour.”

Participants who graduated from the program were issued certificates, marking a significant milestone in their journey towards tech entrepreneurship.

Testifying to the Chairman’s infrastructural development efforts, a resident of Somolu LGA noted, that has brought significant development to the local government, including the construction of new roads, renovation of schools, and establishment of community health centers.

His commitment to empowering our youths through tech and digital skills training is a testament to his dedication to the growth and progress of Somolu.
