The impasse placed on Student Union Government (SUG) in Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) will soon be lifted; the statement was affirmed by the Rector of the institution, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe during a courtesy visit by the executives of the National Association of Nigerian Student (NANS) to the College recently.
The 8 man NANS delegation was led by its Chairman, Comrade Busari Abiola on a fact finding mission; to congratulate, felicitate and draw inspiration from the Rector who was once an active comrade being a former Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) Chairman of Yabatech chapter, before he became the Rector.
NANS expressed concern about Yabatech students not being represented in NANS, which has made the executive post meant for them allocated to other schools. They appealed that the Management of the College should work towards ensuring that Yabatech students are brought back to the mainstream of NANS.
In response, Obafemi disclosed that SUG ban has been in existence before he assumed office, and Yabatech is the not the only institution that is having issue with SUG, but aside that, he posited that his administration is putting every hand on deck to restore SUG in the College, and the process is at advance stage.
According to him, Yabatech students are actively participating internally in the administration of the College; in fact, they have representatives in both on Students Welfare Committee, and the Students Disciplinary Committee of the Management.
He charged executive of NANS to properly educate their members on the danger of cultism, and encourage them to shun evil group, as this will lead to a reduction of cultism in our institutions nationwide.
They later visited the two newly renovated hostels in the College by Omokungbe administration; they were highly impressed with the thorough renovation work done in the hostels, and they commended the Rector for a job well done.
